Vilpattu Report – 2015 May(Leading lawyers and human rights activist Mr S G Punchihewa together with journalists)
Persons in the fact finding mission: Mr S G Punchihewa, a prominent human rights lawyer, Mr Titus Fernando, social activist, Ms Damayanthi Muthukumarage, Humanrights activist, Mr Mahinda Haththaka, social activist, and Mr S Sivagurunathan, interpreter and social activist.
During the current reporting period, one fact finding mission was conducted. Wilpaththu national sanctuary and its surroundings came under intense attention following the Presidential election in January 2015 because of alleged deforestation campaign by Muslim settlers. The media, environmentalists, and Sinhalese extremists attempted to portray an environmental disaster following the alleged deforestation and human settlement of Muslim settlers (around 2000 families) and this campaign turned into a religious clash between several Buddhist monks (led by BBS) and Muslim politicians.

Six provincial level youth clubs have already being identified in all the 6 provinces of this Action such as Southern, Northern, Eastern, North Western, Central, and Western Provinces.
